Mass Effect Trivia #1:
First of all, let me say that this is a feature that I hope to incorporate into this blog as much as possible, and will try to post these very often! These will just be posts with little-known or interesting facts, theories, etc. about Mass Effect. And I figured, why not make my first post be the first bit of trivia? And you can read all of the trivia on the blog at any point by clicking on the “Mass Effect Trivia” link in the left sidebar!
Finding and unlocking the Prothean Ruins on Eletania is an event marker when importing your character into Mass Effect 2.

Located on the planet Eletania in the Hercules system in the Attican Beta cluster in the first Mass Effect, this Prothean Ruin houses a floating orb of some sort (similar to the one found in the Mass Effect 2 “Project Firewalker” DLC, only much smaller). The only way to access it is to use the trinket that the asari Consort, Sha’ira, gave you during the “Citadel: Asari Consort” mission (to be given the trinket, you must complete the “Citadel: Xeltan’s Complaint” mission before returning to Sha’ira). Upon activating the ruin, you are given a text file describing a vision that Commander Shepard receives from the ruin. Shepard lives through the memory of a Cro-Magnon hunter on Earth, thousands of years before civilization began. The vision is actually data recorded from a Prothean recording device, that was implanted in the back of the hunter’s neck. When Shepard awakes, (s)he realizes that this is a mystery that (s)he will probably never solve.
However, this event is flagged while importing your save into Mass Effect 2, but there are seemingly no effects from it. It is very likely that this is just a way of transferring it over to your Mass Effect 3 save, where it may, or may not, affect something in-game. What will it affect? Your guess is as good as mine. It might be nothing. Or, it might be something pretty cool. Who knows? My advice would be to go find the Prothean Ruin anyway, if you haven’t already. It would be pretty cool to see this come up again in Mass Effect 3!
